Michael Perez Sosa

Dr. Michael Perez Sosa is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Counseling and Psychological Services of Columbia Health.  Prior to joining CPS, he completed his pre-doctoral internship at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx. Michael received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the City University of New York and his B.A. in Psychology and Religion from Columbia University School of General Studies. 

Michael has clinical experience in a variety of treatment settings such as community mental health, college counseling, consultation liaison, partial hospitalization, and psychiatric inpatient and outpatient units.  He is interested in working with all students and particularly those suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, chronic stress, relationship challenges, difficult family dynamics, severe mental illness, and multicultural/acculturation challenges.

Michael identifies as a contemplative psychotherapist grounded in a psychodynamic relational approach.  He incorporates insights gleaned from neuroscience, polyvagal theory, and Madhyamika philosophy interwoven with contemplative methods such as mindfulness and compassion meditation practices, skill building, psychoeducation, breath work, and imagery.
