Jorge Alvarenga

Dr. Jorge Alvarenga (he/him) is a clinical psychology postdoctoral fellow at Counseling and Psychological Services at Columbia Health. He conducts intakes and provides psychological services for both undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Alvarenga provides individual therapy as well as co-leading group therapy groups.

Jorge gained experience working in numerous large urban hospitals in the city where he often worked with high-risk patients to ensure their safety and achieve treatment goals. Jorge has experience working with adults, children, and families as well as leading groups focused on Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Music Therapy, and general process groups. Jorge also has experience working with individuals with substance use disorders as well as traumatic experiences.

Jorge works from a psychodynamic perspective with a focus on interpersonal and relational dynamics as well as attachment theory. He also believes that it is important to be flexible in approaching treatment and can integrate more structured interventions when necessary and appropriate for treatment.
