Impacts to Campus Access During Commencement Construction

April 29, 2019

As the University works to assemble the stage and bleachers for Commencement, there may be some alternate access routes on lower and upper campus. Specifically, a temporary ramp will be installed on the Dodge Hall plaza (on upper campus) when the regular route is unavailable in order to facilitate access from the Dodge elevator on upper campus to Lewisohn, Earl and Low Library. In addition, a temporary ramp will be installed on Kent Plaza (on upper campus) when the regular route is unavailable.

At times, the portions of the College Walk center path and north pedestrian walkway may be closed to receive materials and safely move them to Low Plaza. During that time, access to the Dodge Hall elevator from College Walk and the Kent Hall College Walk entrance will remain accessible. East-west access on College Walk may be restricted to only one of the pathways at other times, but access to ramps to South Fields and elevators to upper campus will remain available for use.

Please contact [email protected] if you encounter disruptions to accessible routes or if you have any questions concerning access during this time.

Members of the campus community can sign up for accessibility service alerts to receive updates directly. These email alerts will provide notification if a service issue impacts a campus accessible route, for example an elevator/lift outage or ramp closure. The alerts will provide a link to the service alerts webpage for more details (http://facilities.columbia.edu/service_alerts), including estimated timeline for repair or alternate route when applicable. Alerts will include information for administrative or academic buildings on the Morningside campus and undergraduate residence halls.

The email alerts are opt-in and can be discontinued at any time. To register, visit https://notify.cuf.columbia.edu/, log in using your UNI and password, and complete the form.
