Monitoring Measles & Mumps

April 11, 2019

Columbia University continues to monitor the Measles situations occurring in Brooklyn and Queens as well as Westchester and Rockland Counties. Further, we are aware of and monitoring the Mumps outbreak being reported at Temple University in Philadelphia. There is no identified risk to the Columbia University community at this time. Updates will be provided to the community should the need arise.

At present there is no recommendation for additional vaccination for members of the Columbia University community. All Columbia University students are required to provide proof of vaccination or laboratory immunization confirmation regarding Measles, Mumps, and Rubella before being permitted to register for classes. The University policy ensures compliance with New York State law as well as works to ensure community level and public health evidence-based protections for our students. Learn more about the University immunization requirements.

Faculty and Staff with any concerns are encouraged to communicate with their primary care providers to verify they and their family members have been properly vaccinated.
