Hormone Therapy

Columbia Health offers hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for students who wish to pursue gender affirming hormone therapy. A team of staff members from Medical Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Gay Health Advocacy Project (GHAP), a part of Alice! Health Promotion and the Student Health Insurance Office work together to make students’ experiences supportive, non-judgmental, and reasonably rapid. The team is available to support students at different stages of the process.

For more information about, to start, or continue HRT, contact GHAP by emailing [email protected].

Starting gender affirming hormone replacement therapy

Students who have questions about the process, are wondering if hormones are right for them, or feel ready to begin may contact GHAP at [email protected] or 212-854-6655 for more information and next steps.

Continuing hormone therapy

Students who have already initiated HRT elsewhere may continue their therapy, including renewal of prescriptions, at Medical Services. Students seeking prescription refills are encouraged to connect with their Columbia Health provider well before they run out of their prescription to avoid last-minute emergencies.

For more information about continuing care or to establish care with a Medical Services provider who prescribes HRT, contact GHAP at [email protected] or 212-854-6655. Students should have a copy of their medical records detailing their previous experience with HRT.

Off-campus resources for hormone replacement therapy

Students enrolled in the Columbia Student Health Insurance Plan who wish to undergo HRT off-campus must first receive a referral from their Medical Services primary care provider to be eligible for the full insurance benefit.
