Sexual Violence Response

Melissa Tihinen joined Columbia Health as the Senior Manager of Student Services for Gender-Based and Sexual Misconduct in January 2011. Prior to joining Columbia Health, Melissa was the Assistant Director for Residential Wellness at New York University where she coordinated responses to student wellness and conduct concerns. At NYU, she also served as the Judicial Educator and was responsible for developing education-based disciplinary sanctions, coordinating a mediation program with the NYU School of Law, and serving as the ombudsperson for the residential student conduct process.

Before NYU, Melissa worked in residence life at George Mason University and in alcohol-and-other-drug education at The George Washington University. During her time at GWU, she facilitated a campus climate study, exploring how the University was responding to sexual violence on campus. Melissa’s research interests focus on exploring sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence on college campuses.
