Kelvin Mahabir

Kelvin Mahabir joined Columbia Health in 2009. In his role as Assistive Technology Coordinator, Kelvin works with students and staff to assess their needs for assistive technology, as well as train and troubleshoot their related needs with assistive technology software and hardware. He oversees the provision and creation of Alternate Format Materials (E-text, large print, etc.) for qualified students. He has expertise in working with JAWS, Kurzweil, Read and Write, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and MacSpeech Dictate software. He is comfortable working with both PC and Mac platforms.

Prior to joining Columbia Health, Kelvin worked as an Assistive Technology Specialist for CUNY Assistive Technology Services (CATS) at Queensborough Community College. He is originally from Trinidad and moved to Queens, New York in 1997. Kelvin received his bachelor’s degree in Technology from the New York City College of Technology. If Kelvin is not at Disability Services, he is probably troubleshooting computers, working on his car, or working on home improvement projects.
