Colleen Lewis joined Columbia Health in 2004. As Director, Colleen oversees Disability Services. She also works with students from the School of Law, and some of the students from the School of General Studies. Colleen co-chairs the Disability Access and Accommodation committee on the Morningside campus, and is an active member of a similar committee on the CUMC campus.

Colleen also co-chairs the University Seminar on Disability Studies with Professor Michelle Ballan from the School of Social Work. The University Seminar on Disability Studies offers sustained intellectual interaction across departmental boundaries through a broad interdisciplinary approach to Disability Studies. Focusing on a sociopolitical analysis of disability, the seminar allows for the examination of the social meaning we give to variations that exist in human behavior and appearance, and the role that disability has played, currently plays and can potentially play in the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and education.

Prior to joining Columbia Health, Colleen was Director for Students with Disabilities at the Borough of Manhattan Community College of the City University of New York. She is originally from Stony Brook, Long Island, and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Colleen’s interests include being an avid baseball and college basketball fan, cooking, and exploring neighborhoods throughout New York City.
