Helene M. Keable

Helene Keable joined Columbia Health in 2004. Prior to joining Columbia Health, Helene was a psychiatrist at the Columbia University Medical Center Student Health Service. She also directed the mental health division of the Mount Sinai Hospital Adolescent Center. She attended Laval University in Canada. She completed residencies in internal medicine at McGill Hospital Center and pediatrics and psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Hospital Center in New York. She went on to further advanced training in consultation-liaison at Long Island Jewish Hospital and psychoanalysis at the New York Psychoanalytic Institute.

Helene's professional interests include the impact of gender, trauma, and culture on the development of young adults, the optimal integration of psychotherapy and medication. learning problems in young adults, and systems of delivering health care. In addition to her work at Columbia, she teaches and supervises the faculty of the New York Psychoanalytic Institute and the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

She has written and lectured on the impact of medical illnesses on the psychological development of teenagers and young adults, and the integration of psychotherapy and medication.
